COX-2 Antibody targets Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2, also known as PTGS2), an inducible ~72 kDa isoform of the cyclooxygenase enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2, a precursor of various pro-inflammatory mediators. COX-2 is rapidly upregulated in response to pro-inflammatory stimuli, cytokines (e.g., IL-1β, TNF-α), growth factors, and oncogenic signals, playing a pivotal role in inflammation, pain, fever, and tumorigenesis. Unlike the constitutive COX-1, COX-2 is tightly regulated at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels and is frequently overexpressed in inflammatory diseases and many human cancers. COX-2 antibodies are essential for Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and ELISA applications to evaluate expression dynamics, tissue distribution, and therapeutic targeting in inflammatory and neoplastic contexts.
