MMP2 Antibody is a high-affinity reagent that specifically detects Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), also known as gelatinase A, a ~72 kDa zinc-dependent endopeptidase involved in extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. MMP-2 plays a critical role in the degradation of type IV collagen and other ECM components, facilitating processes such as angiogenesis, tumor invasion, and metastasis. MMP2 is secreted as an inactive proenzyme (pro-MMP-2) and requires proteolytic activation, often mediated by membrane-type MMPs (e.g., MT1-MMP) in conjunction with TIMP-2. MMP2 antibodies are utilized in applications such as Western blotting, zymography, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA to assess expression, localization, and activity in normal physiology and pathological conditions including cancer, fibrosis, and cardiovascular disease.
